ERAWAN SHRINE

Surrounded by traffic, skywalks, and some of Bangkok’s busiest shopping streets, this small but important shrine is always very busy with locals and visitors.

Formally known as the Thao Maha Phrom Shrine, it houses Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of Brahma, the four-faced Hindu god of creation.

The shrine dates back to 1956 and has long been regarded as a place where people come to seek good fortune, success, and protection.

People arrive with lotus flowers, incense, candles, and garlands to place on the shrine and pray.

You will often see traditional Thai dance troupes perform under the shrine pavilion.

There is also an elevated BTS Skytrain walkway over the road that is a great spot for taking photos of the shrine.

Erawan Shrine sits at the Ratchaprasong intersection on Ratchadamri Road, close to the Grand Hyatt Erawan and within easy reach of BTS Chit Lom.
Take Exit 2 from Chit Lom BTS Skytrain Station and follow the skywalk in a westerly direction toward the Ratchaprasong intersection. Keep to the right and you will see the shrine immediately below at street level.
