New checked-baggage inspection procedure from 16 October
From 16 October 2026, security staff at Thai airports may open checked baggage without the passenger being present when screening identifies a suspicious or prohibited item. Bags will not be opened routinely. Inspections must occur under controlled conditions, be video-recorded and be disclosed to the passenger afterwards.
CAAT recommends internationally recognised locks such as TSA-compatible locks. Travellers should not place power banks, spare lithium batteries, valuables, fragile objects, important documents or essential medication in checked baggage.
