Jim Thompson revitalised the silk industry for Thailand in the 1950s and 1960s.
Jim Thompson’s House museum is a group of six traditional Thai teak houses set in gardens by a canal.
These houses display his own Asian art and antique collection which includes old Thai paintings, Buddhist sculpture and Buddha images, Chinese blue-and-white ceramics, and other decorative art.
Visitors enter the main house with a guide. The museum provides tours in Thai, English, French, Chinese, and Japanese.
No reservation is required and the opening hours are everyday from 10am until 5pm.
Entry fee as of 2026 is 250 Baht for Adults and 150 Baht for a child under 10. Tickets available at the museum. Do not buy tickets on-line as they are fake.
To get there, take the No. 1 exit and go straight ahead (north) to the end of Soi Kasemsan 2, Jim Thompson's house is on left side just before you reach the water canal.

MBK Center is one of Bangkok’s most famous shopping malls and a favorite tourist destination. It is easily accessible from the overhead walkway from BTS National Stadium next to the center.

This store boasts more than 2,000 stores over 8 floors. You could spend an entire day here shopping, eating, and seeing a movie.

It is more like a huge indoor market having many small shops selling fashion, bags, souvenirs, electronics, cameras, computers and mobile phones, and much more.

You will also find larger retail stores, a cinema, restaurants and food malls.

Opening times are 10am until 10pm daily.

Siam Discovery is a modern lifestyle shopping mall without the traditional department store layout.

It's a concept in retail fashion which takes a different approach by placing products into themed lifestyle areas instead of simple rows of each clothing brand.

Its themed zones include Her Lab, His Lab, Street Lab, Digital Lab, Creative Lab, Play Lab, and Active Lab, so the mix leans toward fashion, beauty, design, tech, lifestyle.

Open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Take exit no. 3 from the station and use the skybridge to enter the center directly.

The Bangkok Art and Culture Centre is usually called the BACC and is one of Bangkok’s main contemporary arts venues.

It has a large circular atrium and spiraling interior layout with huge main exhibition galleries on the top floors.

BACC also has an Art Library with books, magazines, exhibition catalogues, reading areas, a children’s corner, shops and cafés.

Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am until 8pm, and closed on Mondays. The general exhibitions are free to enter.

To get there, take exit no. 3 from the National Stadium station and use the skybridge to enter the center directly.

Lalai Sap Market is a hidden weekday street market in Silom, tucked into the alleys of Silom Soi 5 in Bang Rak.

You will find vendors selling authentic Thai street food, snacks, fruit, clothing, bags, shoes, and everyday goods packed into a maze of small lanes.

It's more of a local office workers day market and very busy at lunchtime. Open Monday to Friday, from around 7am until about 4pm, depending on each stall.

Silom Complex is a practical city shopping mall in the heart of Silom, directly connected to BTS Sala Daeng station.

It is more for convenient everyday general shopping, casual dining, and services, not a destination luxury mall.

This complex also has a large Central Department Store branch plus fashion, beauty, electronics, lifestyle, and food areas.

Opening hours are from 11am until about 9pm daily.

This Hindu temple is also known as Wat Kaek. No photos are allowed inside the temple and appropriate modest dress standard is required to enter. From the station take the No. 2 exit, and walk or take a taxi or tuk-tuk down Silom Rd. to the corner of Silom and Thanon Pan.

An interesting place for a family tour with children. This is in the Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute. To get there take the No. 3 exit at Sala Daeng station, walk north-east to Rama IV Road (cross the road) until you reach Lumphini Park, now turn left and walk straight down Rama IV road to the very next road which is Henri Dunant Road, then go into Henri Dunant Road for the Snake Farm entrance. Take the first entrance on Henri Dunant Road into the Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute which is about 100 metres from the Rama IV junction and follow the snake farm signs that start at the road entrance and then the inside gate sign with opening times on the gate. The main snake farm entrance is hidden down the small alley.
When you return later, you could go back to visit Lumphini Park.
The snake farm is in the centre of the large complex, just follow the signs. Open Monday to Friday 9:30am until 3:30pm. Saturday and Sunday 9:30 until 1pm.

This large park has public open space, playgrounds, trees and a lake. Open from early morning until 9pm. You can reach Lumpini Park from the station by walking up Silom Road a short distance in a north-east direction until you reach the busy Rama IV Road. Thje park is on the other side of the road.

This very different and unique temple for Thailand is shaped like a Chinese Junk. Take the No.4 exit from the BTS station and walk easterly away from the river a short distance until you get to Charoen Krung Road and turn right (south). The temple is a short walk and is located on the right. You enter the temple grounds through a large ornate arch where you will see the temple directly ahead and a prayer hall to the right.
