Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Ratchanarawthan is arguably Chiang Mai’s most iconic temple. Perched high on Doi Suthep mountain, Wat Doi Suthep can be reached by hiring a red songtheaw (taxi truck) up to the mountain.

Founded in 1383, this sacred site is a pilgrimage destination for Thai Buddhists and offers breathtaking views of the city below.

The temple complex is home to a golden chedi (stupa) that enshrines a relic of the Buddha, making it one of the most revered temples in Thailand.

The journey to the temple involves a climb up 306 steps, flanked by a stunning naga (serpent) balustrade, symbolizing the path to enlightenment.

This temple is very busy with Thai locals and tourists and is one of the most important temples in Chiang Mai. It is located 15 kilometers from Chiang Mai City on Doi (mountain) Suthep.

The Chiang Mai Lanna Folklife Museum is directly opposite Chiang Mai Historical Centre and Three King Monument on Prapokklao Road in the center of the old Chiang Mai city.

Chiang Mai Arts & Cultural Center, Historical Center and Royal Ancestral Shrine Of Lanna are located in the same compound in the middle of Chiang Mai old city on Prapokklao Road.

Housed in a restored colonial-style building, the museum features exhibitions on the history of the Lanna Kingdom, the development of Chiang Mai, and the city’s traditional arts and crafts. One of the many Chiang Mai shopping areas which sell silk and gifts catering for the tourist . This one sells a very wide array of quality silk clothes.

The silk village has an interesting display of how silk would have been produced in the past by hand.

Wat Chedi Luang Varaviharn is located in the heart of old Chiang Mai city on Phra Pok Klao road, just south of the Three Kings Monument.

It is one of the most important temples in Chiang Mai and is always busy with locals and tourists.

This historic temple is known for its massive chedi, which was once the tallest structure in Chiang Mai.

Built between 1385 and 1402, the temple’s chedi was partially destroyed by an earthquake in the 16th century, but it remains an impressive sight.

Wat Chedi Luang is also home to the City Pillar (Inthakhin), an important cultural symbol, and a replica of the Emerald Buddha, Thailand’s most revered statue.

Wat Phrasingh Woramahaviharn is a very important temple in Chiang Mai. The monastry has a large number of monks.

Wat Phra Singh is also known as “The Monastery of the Lion Buddha,” and is one of the most significant temples in Chiang Mai.

Established in the 14th century, this temple is famous for its exquisite Lanna architecture and the revered Phra Singh Buddha image, which is believed to have been brought from Sri Lanka. It is also a center for Buddhist learning, offering meditation retreats and courses on Buddhist philosophy.

Sunday Walking Street is perhaps the most famous market in Chiang Mai. Every Sunday, Rachadamnoen Road transforms into a pedestrian-only zone filled with vendors selling handicrafts, art, clothing, and food.

The market stretches for nearly a kilometer, starting from Tha Pae Gate and extending deep into the old city. The atmosphere is vibrant, with street performers, artists, and musicians adding to the charm.

The Saturday market is slightly less crowded than its Sunday counterpart, making it a more relaxed shopping experience.

It’s a great place to pick up local crafts and enjoy a leisurely evening stroll.
