GOLDEN MOUNT TEMPLE

Wat Saket in Bangkok is also commonly known as The Golden Mount Temple. The official name being Wat Saket Ratcha Wora Maha Wihan.
This temple is built on an 80 meter high man made hill constructed from soil excavated during Bangkok's canal expansions in the 19th century.
The mural of the temple in the photo below depicts the annual procession held every November up to the Chedi during the full moon. Part of this 9 day festival is the tradition of wrapping the golden chedi in a long red cloth which symbolizes the sacred offering to the Buddha's relics housed within.
There are 300 steps around the outside of the mount to get to the top and reach the Chedi. It has expansive views of Bangkok, so pick a clear day to visit so as to take full advantage of the view, and use sun protection as a precaution.
It is a large complex with many other buildings at the base of the mount. One of the buildings in the temple complex has some large amazing murals on display inside, which is well worth seeing.
There are also some good-fortune set-ups where you can throw coins for good luck into a large bowl. There is also one good  luck setup for placing coins into a bowl that matches your birth animal which are just like the Chinese birth year animals except the snake becomes the Naga serpent. The animals of the Thai New Year zodiac cycle are called the Sipsong Rasi, meaning the twelve signs.
Opening times are 8:00am until 5:30pm.

Take the MRT subway line to Sam Yot station and then the Thai Smile Bus Route 8, which departs near the station and takes approximately 6 minutes to reach the temple. Buses run roughly every 20 minutes. See the Transport Travel Apps page to get the ViaBus app on your smart phone.

Alternativly, take a tuk-tuk from Sam Yot, but this would be a much more expensive option. Barter a fixed price before getting in.
