WAT PHUTTHAISAWAN

Wat Phutthaisawan is an ancient temple ruins that is accessible off the Chao Phraya River in Ayutthaya by way of the many boat tours that circumnavigate the Pasak River around Ayutthaya.

Within the large temple complex you will also find the active Buddhaghosa Residence, the Kings Monument, Phra Ubosot, and interesting murals.

This is a quieter temple than many of the more visited sites in the old capital.

You can locate the ruins by entering the small gate, so it's a bit hidden behind a wall and you will need to follow the signs. A donation box is just inside the gate entry. The temple grounds has a towering central prang, chedis, and weathered brick structures with faded plaster. A part of the complex grounds has a reclining Buddha and seated Buddha images draped in vivid saffron robes which are tucked away in the ruins inside what was a temple building.

If you take a Pasak river boat tour, then often one of the stops is Wat Phutthaisawan. Alternatively, you can take a tuk-tuk ride, but the tour is the easiest to see some amazing places.
