CHIANG MAI NIGHT SAFARI

Chiang Mai Night Safari is one of the most popular family attractions in Chiang Mai that offers a different kind of sightseeing experience after sunset.

This large attraction venue is located outside of the city and is ideal if you are a family with children, a couple wanting a relaxing evening or solo traveller looking for some-thing different besides temples and markets.

It is best visited in the late afternoon or evening. Arriving before dark allows you to explore some of the walking areas while there is still some natural light, then enjoy the tram rides and night-time atmosphere later.

The cooler evening temperature is also one of the main advantages of visiting later in the day. Chiang Mai can often be hot and sticky, so an evening wildlife attraction can be a pleasant change from daytime sightseeing.

You will see wildlife in a large park setting, with tram rides, walking zones, animal encounters, evening entertainment with colorful water displays, and very often there will be some traditional dancing or similar shows. There is the Jaguar Trail Zone, Predator Prowl Zone and Savanna Safari Zone to see.

The main highlight of the Chiang Mai Night Safari is the tram ride where you board open-sided trams that travel through large animal zones that gives a safari-style view of different species within their own landscaped habitats. It's a bit more exciting and adventurous at night with the park lights, sounds, and cooler weather which create a different mood from a daytime zoo visit.

You will see elephants, deer, zebras, giraffes, antelope, and other animals along the way. The slow tram will stop sometimes to allow the more docile animals to approach you for some food. Flash photography is not allowed so as not to frighten the animals. If you are using a smart phone/camera, and if it has the capability, set it to "night" mode so it can take very quick successive images at different exposures and combine the shots using AI to create one great night photo. Wait for the animal to stop moving before taking the shot and hold the smart phone/camera very still during the exposures.

Chiang Mai Night Safari also has walking areas where you can explore at your own pace. These landscaped zones have smaller animals, birds, reptiles, and other wildlife displays.

Bring mosquito repellent and a light jacket in case it gets too cool later in the evening.
There is some food, snacks, and drinks available at the zoo.

Chiang Mai Night Safari is located southwest of Chiang Mai city, near the foothills of Doi Suthep-Pui National Park and close to the outer Hang Dong area. It is outside the Old City, so you will need transport to get there. The easiest way to visit is to take a pre-booked tour with a guide. This ensures you have transport to get back to the city later in the night. Once you arrive, set your mobile cell phone alarm so you don't get left behind on the return journey.
