THAI SILK VILLAGE

Chiang Mai is one of Thailand’s best destinations for traditional crafts, and the Chiang Mai–San Kamphaeng Road is one of the most popular routes for visitors who want to see and shop for locally made products. This well-known handicraft road connects Chiang Mai city with the San Kamphaeng area, a district famous for silk, silverware, wood carving, lacquerware, ceramics, umbrellas, and other Northern Thai crafts.

The Chiang Siam Gift House of Jade, P.Collection Silver Shop, and Thai Silk Village are all close to each other on the same road.
This area has large craft shops, display rooms, workshops, and village-style shopping where you can see how traditional products are made, learn about local materials, and buy souvenirs directly from the business. I think you will find it is a good choice if you want more time to browse, ask questions, compare quality, and buy something meaningful. The people there are more helpful and friendly than the typical tourist souvenir shop or market vendor. Prices range from affordable bargains to luxury high-end gifts, and you could always try using your haggling skills to get a discount, but always be polite.

The Thai Silk Village also has an interesting live working display on how silk would have been produced in the past by hand. A large selection of modern and traditional silk clothing is on sale as well as many other quality items. Don't forget to ask about how to care for any silk item you purchase.

I found almost everything on sale inside these display rooms and workshops on San Kamphaeng Road worthy of a photo. But, first ask permission if you want to take photos of something you don't purchase because unique item designs would want to be protected, and please don't include people in the photos.

Chiang Siam Gift House of Jade, P.Collection Silver Shop, and Thai Silk Village are located along Chiang Mai–San Kamphaeng Road, east of Chiang Mai city, over the other side of the main provincial highway, along route 1006. The easiest way to visit is by taxi, red songthaew, or as part of a local tour. Use the Grab app for convenience. It may be a bit to far for a tuk-tuk. There are little or no road or street signs to the village, only at the entrance. Use the interactive map below if you have your own rental car.
