RAI MAE FAH LUANG

Rai Mae Fah Luang Art and Culture Park is one of Chiang Rai’s most peaceful and culturally rich attractions.

This is an important centre for preserving and displaying Lanna art and culture.

The park sits within a spacious garden setting with shaded walkways, old trees, open lawns, colorful flower beds, and water features.

The Haw Keaw building is constructed in traditional Lanna architectural style with a large exhibition and museum hall that functions as a modern gallery.

This hall exhibits antique teak artifacts, Lanna-era tools, photography, and historical displays. The photos below show only a few of the exibits on display. Expect to spend about 1 to 2 hours exploring everything in this Art and Culture Park.

The Buddhist art collection is also a good reason to visit. You will see beautiful ornate shrines, Buddha images, and other religious pieces of Lanna heritage. Many pieces are decorated with gold, lacquer, glass inlay and delicate carved patterns.

The wooden architecture is also an impressive part of Rai Mae Fah Luang. You will see several traditional teak buildings and decorative wooden panels which give the park a strong Lanna character.

You can purchase a bag of food pellets at the small kiosk to feed the fish in the lake and then watch a melee of ducks and fish as they fight over the food in the water. This park is a very tranquil and a pleasant tourist attraction, ideal for a relaxing day.

Opening times are 8:00am until 6:00pm daily, except Monday.

Rai Mae Fah Luang Art and Culture Park is easy to reach from Chiang Rai city centre. The park is located in Rop Wiang, around 4 km west of the city, and the simplest way to get there is by using the Grab app, or hailing a taxi or tuk-tuk. The journey usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes from most central hotels. As the park is in a quieter part of Chiang Rai, it is worth arranging your return transport in advance or asking your driver to wait while you explore the gardens, teak buildings and Lanna art collections. Alternatively, walk back to the main road and use the Grab app to book a return ride.
